Look Ma, No Pattern!

Ok, readers! I've made some head way with the black and cream print! Surprisingly,I'm draping and it's going pretty well, considering I have absolutely no training in doing so! The shape is quite straight forward with a hint of detail, nothing to complicated. So at some point tomorrow I'll show you my progress, finished or not. Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Ohhh, draping, that's so advanced (girlishly giggling)!!! Sorry I get so excited about the sewing others do. Can't wait to see your progress. Are you using any book or textbooks to assist you? Helen Joseph Armstrong's draping book is pretty awesome. Give us the scoop.Have fun!

  2. WOW, I can't wait to see HLT!! I really like your fabric too! I'm so interested in learning more about draping and have done a couple things but always inspired by what others do. I agree with Victoria on the Helen Joseph Armstrong draping book, I have it and it's really nice! Good luck and we're anxiously waiting...

  3. Hi Victoria, well for some reason I don't see it as advanced, just time consuming, because you never have to be done! But I'm really happy that you're so excited! That makes me laugh with joy! No text books, just what's already in my head and some imagination. I think I'll be able to explain why I did what I did though...and that basically the point. And having a completely unique dress that came from my brain! Pretty neat! Occasionally, I listen to Oprah Radio, and years ago First Lady E. Rooselevelt said this: ...We must do that which we think cannot. This project totally falls under that phrase. Not so much that I think I can't, but that I have few specific skills that have prepared me. Only my experiences.

Myra, the fabric is interesting in 2 ways: it's 100% cotton and it's a panel print! Not even a full yard! Initially, I was thinking of doing a half and half dress with this print on the bottom, then I was thinking of doing just a skirt. Again, I couldn't make up my mind. And on top of that, what pattern uses that kind of yardage? none! That's usually what propels me to design it myself. I'll talk more about that when I post. No textbooks, just my brain.

Thanks for commenting ladies! I'll probably post sometime after 11pm EST!
